Princeton, June, 6 am.

The first morning I woke up with you
you looked as peaceful as a girl who drowned
face down, in a movie about another time.
Your dark hair spread out
as if the sheet was made of water
steady breath feeding dreams
and rocking your body like waves.
But when I moved closer
your skin was warmer than mine
and exactly as warm
as the day outside would be and I knew
you took cues from the weather.
